Lives and works in Tokyo, Japan

HAN Ishu was born in 1987 in Shanghai and moved to Aomori, Japan. Han began his artistic practice in high school and finished his MFA in 2012 with a major in intermedia art at Tokyo University of the Arts. From his own point of view, Han, as an emerging artist, addresses questions regarding the individual’s complex relationship with society and the confusion caused by it. With sincerity and sometimes humor, Han speaks to viewers through multimedia such as installation, photography, paintings, and video, in which he uses his own body to perform. His works were exhibited in Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (Taiwan), Royal College of Art (London), Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and lately participated in artist-in-residency programs at Residency Unlimited and international studio & curatorial program (iscp) in New York.
