Daisuke Ohba

Daisuke Ohba creates large-scale abstract and landscape paintings composed of iridescent acrylic pearl paint, whose light and color effects transform according to natural light and the viewer’s line of sight. Ohba paints mountains, forests, and abstract forms such as rhythmic arrangements of grids, all in his signature white-on-white paint with shimmering, textured surfaces that suggest the sublime. “The work adapts to circumstances, rather than controls them,” he says of his paint’s effects. Ohba's evolving technique has recently included spinning Beyblade tops on his paintings so that swirling grooves form on their surfaces, and using computer software to manipulate colors in photographic imagery, before projecting them onto his canvases and painting versions of them.
